The Faculty of
Forestry (Benhama) is situated between N 340 16' 41.8'' Latitude to E 740 46'
45.3'' Longitude at an elevation of 1772 m (msl) in the Gandarbal district of
J&K. Spread over 50 hectares of land, the Faculty is located in the foothills
of Lar mountains about 40 Kms from Capital City Srinagar. The faculty is connected
by air from all the capital cities of India and some international destinations
by Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport which is 47 Kms distance from the
faculty. It is also connected by a Railway station at Nowgam Srinagar at a distance
of 48 Kms.
Faculty of Forestry (SKUAST
Kashmir) has its roots in erstwhile Division of Forestry, FoA established in
1987 to impart quality and holistic technical forestry education in the state
of J&K. In the year 2007, the division of forestry was accorded Faculty
status, since then this faculty has acquired multidimensions through Teaching,
Research and Extension, and upholded the highest standards of quality forestry
education.
At present,
Faculty of Forestry has students from various states of India and all over
world on its rolls, pursuing forestry education in different disciplines, like
Silviculture and Agroforestry, Forest Biology and Tree Improvement, Forest
Products and Utilization, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Sciences, and
Social and Basic Sciences.
A comprehensive resident
instruction programme for BSc, MSc and PhD Forestry at this faculty with the
objective to impart quality professional education for providing competent,
practical oriented and skilful human resource base of professional forestry and
post graduates is being carried out since 1986-87. The learning process and its
standard has been continuously improved and as a reason the faculty has been
accredited with “A” grade by ICFRE in 2011 and ICAR in 2010-11 and 2015-16.
The Faculty of Forestry is constituted of the following disciplines:

• Natural Resource Management
• Forest Products and Utilization
• Wildlife Sciences
• Social and Basic Sciences
